MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR
I’m Katrina Mendez, and I am the Director and Head Teacher at Shining Star Music Academy. As a parent, I am over-booked (as are my kids), I am tired from driving my children to various activities, I understand you! I want to make your lives easier and bring joy and growth to your children through music. Here is how it works:
First, click below to set up a Discovery Call. We want to hear about your goals and needs, and help you register if this is a good fit for your household.
Second, it takes about 2 weeks to set up a schedule for your 1:1 lessons and get you started in the academy.
Third, pick your online group classes and attend your 1:1 lessons - have fun hearing music come to life in your household!

Our teachers are positive and engaging, experienced and flexible! We only bring on teachers we would want teaching our own kids.
Most teachers have music degrees or are obtaining them, and we pair you with a teacher based on your needs. If you don’t feel your teacher is the best fit, we can always try again (that never happens, though!).
Online Group Classes - So Many to Choose From!
Our engaging teachers teach music production, composition, improvisation, theory, learn about composers and important musical compositions of the past, and SO MUCH more.
Our classes are tailored for specific age ranges starting age 5 and up. Classes are scheduled in mornings, afternoons and evenings - you will find a class that works for your schedule each week!
Recitals - Let's Share Our Music!
Most students want to share what they have been working on! Students can share their original compositions and performance pieces by participating in our online recitals.
Seeing other kids using this beautiful language is a great motivator for our students.
Annual Assessments - Let's Motivate!
Each Spring we offer optional theory and performance assessments. These are common in music, and are great for motivating our kids to study and practice. Students play for a judge and get feedback and earn medals. They also take theory exams to ensure they are building confidence in the building blocks of music.

Music is the MOST DYNAMIC language we know of - so why do we think our kids will master it with and be motivated by only one, 30 minute lesson per week with their teacher?
In music college, we take classes in conducting, ear training, composition, learning about specific composers and periods of music, producing and more.
Well, Shining Star Music Academy is disrupting the music lesson arena by incorporating all of these topics AND MORE into our online music lesson program - all for the same price as a normal 1:1 lesson!

The cost?
With dedicated 1:1 lessons weekly, AND an online group class or two each week learning about other topics in music and practicing their newfound skills, this is an unparalleled comprehensive music lesson program.
Even if all you did was take advantage of your 1-1 classes each week, you are saving time and money because your lessons will be more consistent, your teacher more focused, and your classes full length.
Our membership includes books, unlimited online group classes each month, annual assessments and performance opportunities - all for the same price as 1:1 weekly lessons!
Will there be classes to fit my availability?
Yes! We schedule classes during the morning, afternoon and evening 7 days a week. There should be classes that work for everyone’s schedule.
Will there be group classes for my child's age?
Absolutely! We write the suggested ages on the class descriptions to assist you in choosing what group classes to attend.
Do online lessons really work?
Yes! We have been teaching them for over a decade, and have many students that have been taking online lessons with us for more than 5 consecutive years! Teaching online just takes a different skillset and approach by the teacher in order to be able to direct and interact well. Students who learn online develop their ears faster, in our experience, which is crucial for being a successful musician.
Who will my instructor be?
A positive and engaging, experienced and flexible teacher! We only bring on teachers we would want teaching our own kids. Most teachers have music degrees or are obtaining them, and we pair you with a teacher based on your needs. If you don’t feel your teacher is the best fit, we can always try again (that never happens, though!).
I'm nervous to commit...
We make it SO easy. We know our program is the best, so we don't request long commitments. All we ask for is a 30 day notice to stop or pause lessons if life gets too busy. You aren’t asked to abide by that until you have met your teacher and love them after the first lesson!
