What Parents are Saying:

Frequently Asked Question

If I sign up, when do I start?

You can be ready to sign up for your first class within 24 hours! We can assist you on finding an instrument or getting set up for your first class. We can also recommend a teacher based on your needs and goals!

How can I cancel if isn't for me or we get busy?

You can email us at Megan@shiningstarmusicacademy.com at any time if you would like to pause or stop lessons.

How do I pick my teacher or classes?

When you register, you will be sent information on how to log into your account, and you will see all the available time slots with teachers to choose from. Instruments and teachers are marked clearly for 1-1 lessons, and group lessons can be attended by all students. You can register for the entire year of lessons, or email us directly if you would like us to register you for a regular lesson schedule with one teacher.

Do I have to be on autopay?

Yes, we require our online membership students to be on autopay.

Should you wish to stop at any point, you can email us and request that. We will allow withdrawal from your membership at any point in the month before you wish to stop, up until 48 hours after the new month stops.

What is your guarantee?

If you :

- try our services for a month and attend 2 private and 2 group classes, and

- are not satisfied for any reason, and

-you reach out to request a refund before the 30th day after you sign up,

we will refund your first month's registration fee minus the cost of the books mailed out to you (average cost is $15-$25).

This NEVER happens, but we want you to feel comfortable with what we do and who we are! The only reason we do this is to bring the joy and beauty of music to more kids and families!

If you decide to stop at any time after you sign up, and don't meet the above conditions, the current month is not refundable, but you can request to stop lessons for future months. The deadline to request to stop a membership is anytime in the month before, up to 48 hours after the new month begins. For example, if you wish to stop at the end of June, you have until midnight on July 2nd to request to stop as of June 30th. If we have charged your account, the July payment would be refundable in this case.

How do you vet/pick your teachers?

We do national, state, and county background checks; extensive reference calling; and all our online teachers have worked with us for quite sometime.

We only bring teachers in to our group who love working with kids, are flexible personalities, and are so passionate about teaching. Our methods are to teach the fundamentals and technical side of music while also seeking out what the student loves about music and leaning into that as well.

How do the group classes work?

Our group classes are built for all ages - age 5 and up, all instruments and all levels!

We teach specific concepts and genres at times (i.e. songwriting, improvisation, solfege, rhythm, sightreading, blues, etc.), as well as group games and even practice time.

Our goal is that each student has fun, learns something new, interacts with other children, and has actionable materials to work with after each group lesson.

What do I need to get started?

  1. A device (laptop, computer with camera, phone or tablet) with access to Zoom

  2. Headphones just in case our audio has issues

  3. Your primary instrument to play on (if you need help finding one, you can request that in your registration form and we will send you all the info you need!)

Do online lessons really work?

We have been teaching online since 2014, and it is an amazing way to learn! Students have so much flexibility with their lesson days and times. You only need a decent device (laptop, computer, phone, ipad, etc) to sign in. If Zoom isn't ideal for you, your teacher can set up an alternate method to meet such as Google Meet.

Online lessons are a great way to learn - teachers do teach differently since they can't physically alter a child's hands on their instrument or point to their book in the room. We have great online materials and methods to work around that with ease. We have the ability to show our hands on the instrument very closely to assist younger students as well.

We send notes for practice work after each lesson and they are kept in your student account as well, in case a new teacher is selected in the future - they can transition to teaching your child with ease.

What ages do you accept?

We accept ages 5 - adult!

What if I want to stop after the first month?

The membership is month-to-month. You can cancel your membership anytime before the next month, or with 48 hours of the beginning of month (if you haven't had any classes in that time frame). We keep this simple for busy parents!

What instruments to you teach?

Piano, voice, guitar, violin, cello, bass, guitar, ukulele, drums, brass, woodwinds and more! If you sign up and we don't have current availability for the primary instrument you requested, we will either add a teacher to the schedule for you or offer a refund if we cannot accommodate your needs.

What if I can't make a lesson I registered for?

You can cancel a 1-1 lesson 24 hours or more before it, and you will receive the lesson credit back so you can reschedule. If you fail to cancel before 24 hours for a 1-1 lesson, your lesson credit will be applied to that lesson.Group lessons can be attended at will anytime, so you there are no consequences if you need to miss a group lesson.

What if I don't use my two 1-1 lesson credits each month?

Unfortunately, we don't allow credits for any lessons to roll over to the next month. We encourage you to use your credits and plan ahead so the student can thrive in their instrument!

How often do you offer lessons?

We have lesson openings everyday - with some days as much as 12 hours of availability to schedule your 1-1 lessons!
