Our music teachers bring music to life IN YOUR HOME with online 1:1 lessons and group classes throughout the week.
You are free to make dinner, spend quality time with your other children, clean, hang out… it’s your time to get things off your to do list!

Our teaching philosophy is to seek out the
spark of joy that each student has, and dig into that as much as we can.
I’m Katrina Mendez, and I am the CEO and Founder of Shining Star Music Academy. As a parent, I am over-booked (as are my kids), I am tired from driving my children to various activities, I am juggling too many things on my plate. I want more awesome grown ups pouring in my kids, and simple solutions to this. It is from this perspective that I run this company. I want to make your lives easier and bring joy and growth to your children through music. Here is how it works:
First, click below to set up a Discovery Call. We want to hear about your goals and needs, get your availability and explain what we offer so we can get you registered. During this call, you can also choose to schedule a Free First Lesson and Assessment so you can be sure that we are a good fit for you and your student before committing to regular lessons.
Second, if you decide to register for weekly lessons, we will work on setting your schedule and introducing you to your teacher within approximately 2-4 weeks of receiving your registration. We will contact you to confirm your lesson and teacher, and make sure you have all that you need to get started.
Third, your weekly lessons with your new teacher begin! In the first lesson, your teacher will evaluate which curriculum is best for the student, spend time getting to know them, and get them started playing their instrument.

Join us for piano lessons, voice lessons, guitar lessons, violin lessons, drum lessons and more if you live in our driving areas, Jacksonville, FL, Gainesville, FL, Ocala, FL, or Orlando, FL - or online if you live outside our driving area.
Our Academy is a Community
COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES
We host several performances each year, including a more formal year-end recital and a variety of indoor and outdoor community events. Students often perform for the elderly and are encouraged to bring a drawing or homemade card to brighten someone’s day.
MEET AND GREETS
Throughout the year, we meet in a local park to play games, hold jam sessions, and connect outside of lessons. These gatherings help students and teachers build community while having fun making music together.
ONLINE GROUP CLASSES
Each month, we host at least two online group Zoom classes open to all instruments and ages. A composer or genre is featured, and level-appropriate arrangements are shared in advance so students can learn, perform, and explore the music together.
RECITAL PREP CLASSES
Before our annual recital, we offer both in-person and online group classes to help students prepare in a relaxed environment. Students perform, play games, connect with peers, and become familiar with the recital space ahead of time.
